The City of Poth is currently accepting applications for the position of Chief of Police. The Chief is responsible for all operational and administrative aspects of the police department, provide patrol, criminal investigations, crime prevention, enforce all laws and ordinances and be responsible for public health and safety. Must be community oriented, have strong public relations skills, strong work ethics, must be physically fit and maintain a professional image while in uniform. A High School Diploma or GED is required. Must have a valid Class C or higher Texas Driver’s License. Must be TCLEOSE Master Peace Officer certified and have at least 5 years of experience with law enforcement agency; SWAT, Gang Unit, Narcotics or Detective experience a plus, pass a thorough background check investigation with drug screen and credit check. The City offers benefit package with retirement plan and medical insurance. Salary dependent on qualifications. EOE. 1914-2012

Monica Korzekwa Sprencel, a longtime resident of Falls City, Texas, entered eternal rest Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at 11 p.m. in the Floresville Nursing and Rehab Center in Floresville at the age of 98 years, 7 months, and 25 days. Monica was born May 4, 1914, in Falls City, the daughter of Vincent and Anna Moy Korzekwa.

Monica was a homemaker and a lifelong member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Falls City, where she served in the Altar Society and the Rosary Circle. Monica married Tom Daniel Sprencel on Feb. 3, 1942, in the Holy Trinity Church in Falls City. Tom, Monica’s beloved husband of more than 45 years, preceded her in death on June 9, 1987. A special thanks to everyone at Floresville Nursing and Rehab Center for everything, said the family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tom D. Sprencel; her sisters, Bernice Moczygemba and husband Edward and Justine Moczygemba and husband Victor; her brother, Frank Korzekwa and wife Virginia; and her granddaughter, Amber Sprencel.

Monica is survived by her children, Lambert Sprencel, Annie Niedenberger, and Efrem Sprencel and wife Jeanie; her grandchildren, Mark Niedenberger, Doug Niedenberger and wife Carrie, Steve Sprencel, and Adam Sprencel; her great-grandchildren, Tristan Niedenberger, Marilena Niedenberger, and Austin Sprencel; and her sister, Mary Korzekwa.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, Jan. 2, at 9 a.m., with a rosary recited at 9:30 a.m. in the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Falls City.

A funeral Mass was held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the church with the Rev. Gregory Sawicki officiating.

Interment followed in the Holy Trinity Cemetery in Falls City.

Serving as pallbearers were Sidney Moczygemba, Jerry Korzekwa, Steve Sprencel, Adam Sprencel, Douglas Niedenberger, and Mark Niedenberger.

Memorials may be made to Floresville Nursing and Rehab Center, 1811 Sixth St., Floresville, TX 78114; or to Holy Trinity Cemetery, P.O. Box 158, Falls City, TX 78113.
