This is the fourth in a series of profiles of the Floresville City Council members.

Local business owner Jim Miller has been at the center of the issues-based movement that has caused significant change in Floresville. Miller was the Emergency Medical Services Program Director for the U.S. Army before retiring and opening his Floresville shop, Photographs by Jim/Eagle Ford Signs. Here’s a little more information on Floresville’s recently elected councilman.

Age: 47

Spouse: Donna Miller, married 12 years.

Children: Amandine, 25, graduate of Texas Lutheran University with a degree in psychology.

Education: New Mexico State University, University of New Mexico Health Sciences, University of Texas at San Antonio, Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences, and the National Fire Academy.

Tell us about yourself.

“I have no intention of making politics a career, nor do I consider myself a politician. I only ran for the city council in an effort to return control of the government back to the people.”

What is one thing you want to say about Floresville?

“It’s a great city and it’s filled with opportunity. Government needs to allow that opportunity to be realized by the citizens and residents of the community.”

What do you see in the future for Floresville?

“Floresville’s growing by leaps and bounds; the numbers are there. It’s do we embrace that growth? Do we prepare for that growth? Those are the things the city really needs to be focused on, preparing for that growth.”

What is one thing you want readers of the Wilson County News to know?

“There’s been a lot of discussion, at city council meetings, about who’s running things, saying, ‘Jim Miller puts this on the agenda and Jim Miller puts that on the agenda.’ Councilmen [Mario] Morones and [John] Guerrero have both said they are independent thinkers, and I agree with that.

“I think my role, as a councilman, is to get all the information on the table so that the decisions are made informed and not blind. That involves asking questions and putting things on the agenda so that we can get the right information.”

FTP, it ain't like Miller's gonna get out there with a shovel and fix that raggedy mess you call a park. You and your crew let that thing disintegrate for the past several decades, which is why you didn't get another one. ... More ›
