GEORGE WEST -- The Floresville Tiger junior varsity basketball team participated in the George West Varsity Tournament during the Christmas break. And as it turns out, the Tigers didn’t just participate -- they won the tournament! Going undefeated during tournament play, Floresville earned wins over the varsity teams from Dilley, Three Rivers, Falls City, George West, and Pettus.

The Tigers’ first opponents, the Dilley Wolves, proved to be a tough match-up, taking the Tigers into overtime. But the Tigers pulled out the victory, winning 56-51. Next, the Tigers faced the Three Rivers Bulldogs and picked up an easy win, beating the Bulldogs 61-38. This win put the Tigers playing a neighboring rival, the Falls City Beavers. But this battle was all Tigers, getting another win over Falls City, 53-31.

The Tigers moved on to face the George West Longhorns. The game was close at the end, but the Tigers stayed focused and played team ball, finishing off the Longhorns with a 1-point victory, 44-43. The only thing between the Tigers and the championship was Pettus. Despite their best efforts, the Eagles could not contain the Tigers’ explosive offense, as Floresville put up 75 points and got the easy win, 75-42.

Zach Chambers was selected to the all-tournament team, and Ricky Gonzales was chosen as the tournament MVP. Way to go, Tigers!
