FLORESVILLE -- While the city of Floresville continues its transition to new leadership, the city council, at its Jan. 10 meeting, has appointed members to its ordinance and audit committees.
The appointments will feature a mix of city councilmen and the relevant boards and city staff. Appointments include:
•Audit Committee: City Manager Andy Joslin; councimen Jim Miller, Sherry Castillo, and Eric Rodriguez; 4A board member Debra Conoly, Doug Jones, and Finance Director Lara Feagins, who will serve as the committee liaison.
•Ordinance Committee: Joslin, Miller, Cyndi Nichols of the permits office, Sheila Garza, Griselda Cantu, Police Chief Lorenzo Herrera, and a Planning and Zoning board member.
The audit committee will work to direct an independent auditor as to the scope of the city’s annual audit. The group also will receive the report before presenting it to the city council after the audit has been completed.
Also at the meeting, the city council heard quarterly updates from various committees, including the 4A corporation, Floresville Economic Development Corp., Planning and Zoning Commission, the city’s Parks Foundation, municipal court, and Allied Waste, as well as updates on the street maintenance plan.
Joslin responded to direction he received from the council in December regarding a system to more effecticely deliver information to council members. He presented the system, including forms and timetables for responses to requests and agenda items.
“I think that’s a good idea, to be able to keep track of what we want placed on the agenda,” said Councilman John Guerrero. “A paper trail is always good.”
Also at the meeting, the city council:
•Approved a proclamation for the Lion’s Club Mid-Winter Conference, to be held in Floresville Jan. 19.
•Recognized Gloria Martinez as the city’s employee of the month for December.
***In attendance: Councilmen Jim Miller, John Guerrero, Sherry M. Castillo, Mario Morones, and Eric Rodriguez; City Manager Andy Joslin; City Secretary Sherry Pollok; and Comptroller Lara Feagins.
