Church welcomes new minister
FLORESVILLE -- Members of the Floresville Church of Christ congregation have welcomed a new preaching minister. Lloyd Mansfield and his wife, Gail, moved from Muscatine, Iowa, in November.
Lloyd earned a Bachelor of Arts in Bible studies from Abilene Christian University; he also holds a Master of Arts in Counseling from West Virginia College of Graduate Studies.
The Mansfields have served Church of Christ congregations in Oklahoma, West Virginia, Virginia, and Iowa, as well as San Antonio and New Braunfels, Texas. They also spent 11 years working in England, where they established churches in two London suburbs, as well as Cambridge. From England, they went to Frankfurt, Germany, and served a U.S. military congregation for two years.
“We are happy to be here in Floresville,” Lloyd said. “Our concern is the downward spiral in the American culture. Many churches are changing their emphasis away from God’s Word. Because of this, many people are looking for something and someone to believe in.”
Lloyd reassures Floresville residents that Gordon Lindley remains in the community as a chaplain with the Floresville Police Department; he has simply retired as the church’s preaching minister.
“It’s always been a friendly place,” Lloyd said of Floresville. “We’re looking forward to finding people who are not ‘churched’ and getting them involved in spiritual things.”
The Church of Christ is located at Third and A streets. Bible study is Sundays at 9 a.m. Services are on Sunday at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
