LAS VEGAS -- Independent Cattlemen’s Association of Texas members A.L. “Windy” and Laurie Miller attended their first annual membership meeting of the U.S. Cattlemen’s Association in Las Vegas in early December.

The meeting included an update from the Cattlemen’s Beef Board Chairman Polly Ruhland where she allowed for questions from the members in the meeting.

The meeting also included conference calls to Washington, D.C., including:

•A World Trade Organization ruling on the Country of Origin Labeling (COOL) update from Elizabeth Drake, international trade attorney, and hoping to have a decision by May 23.

•Karla Thieman, Senate Ag Committee majority professional staff, regarding the 2012 Farm Bill and COOL.

Comments were also heard from U.S. Cattlemen’s Association leadership, including Region V (Texas) Director and Vice President Chuck Kiker; Director Emeritus Leo McDonnell; Executive Vice President Jess Peterson; Deputy Director of Government and Industry Relations Kelly Fogarty; and President Jon Wooster.

While in Vegas, the Millers attended the National Final Rodeo and cheered on the many cowboys and cowgirls from Texas. They also stopped by Buck Taylor’s Art Booth at Cowboy Christmas and set a tentative date with Taylor for his annual Buck Taylor -- South Central Texas ICA Team Roping event to be held Saturday, April 27, in Stockdale, Texas.

Watch for more information about this roping.
