The Stockdale Independent School District’s Gifted and Talented Nomination and Screening Committee is accepting nominations for students in grades 1-11 now through Thursday, Jan. 24. Students may be nominated to the Gifted and Talented program by teachers, counselors, parents, or other interested persons.

Once a nomination is submitted, a variety of information is gathered on each student. Soon after, a selection committee will meet to determine which students qualify for the program. No single test score or nomination will qualify a child for the program. Approximately 3 percent to 5 percent of students enrolled will qualify for inclusion in this program.

The Gifted and Talented program focuses on developing higher level thinking skills, creative thinking skills, and research skills, with an emphasis in the four core areas of instruction.

Any individual who would like to nominate a student for this program may go by the student’s school and request the necessary nomination form. All forms must be completed and returned to the school by noon on Thursday, Jan. 24.

Any person unable to come to the school may call the school and the form will be sent. The form also can be accessed on the Stockdale ISD website at http://www.stockdaleisd.org.

After nominations have been placed, permission slips for testing will be sent home and testing will begin. Students who enter the program must have parental permission prior to admission.

For more information, call Roxanne Seidel at 830-996-3551.
