FLORESVILLE -- A general fund deficit of $166,384 at the end of 2011, "to an unaudited deficit of $355,419," are some of the damning bits of information presented by Floresville city Auditor Patricia K. Wagner, during a Jan. 18 meeting of the Floresville Audit Committee.

“The city is insolvent,” she said.

Wagner painted a bleak picture of the city’s financial outlook during the 80-minute meeting, in which she outlined some of her preliminary findings ahead of preparing the city’s 2012 fiscal year audit report.

The committee is set to discuss recommendations for bringing the city into solvency when it meets again Monday, Jan. 28, at 1 p.m.

“I think the decisions that are going to have to be made are going to have to be practical decisions, not political decisions,” Wagner said.

For more about this meeting, and the committee’s Jan. 14 meeting, read the Jan. 23 print edition of the Wilson County News.
