SASPAMCO -- A group of boaters has been rescued from the San Antonio River here, after becoming trapped on the Saspamco Paddling Trail. Members of the Wilson County Emergency Response Team -- which includes firefighters from La Vernia, Stockdale, and Eagle Creek -- rescued two men and three women from the river at approximately 10:30 p.m. Jan. 20, according to Chief Edwin Baker of the Stockdale Volunteer Fire Department.
Baker said the group of Bexar County residents began their river trek at approximately 3:30 p.m., after being told the passage was clear. They encountered a logjam in the vicinity of Gutierrez Lane and C.R. 125 and became trapped.
Baker said the crews were able to use ropes to help the boaters climb up a muddy area of the bank. No one was injured.
