FLORESVILLE -- Members of the Floresville City Council soon will have another issue on their plate, after a Jan. 15 meeting with representatives of the River Bend Tax Increment Financing (TIF) organization yielded more questions than answers. (See PDF download above)
As is the situation with many entities tied to the city of Floresville, an audit is needed to ensure the organization is compliant with city standards.
The difference between the River Bend TIF and other city entities is that the TIF --since its creation in 2001 -- has never been audited, which came as a surprise to the council.
Many of the board appointments also were found to be inadequate, as members such as former Floresville Economic Development Corp. Executive Director Jesse Perez no longer have ties to the city of Floresville.
Members of the board are appointed by various governmental entities and include:
•Chairman Brett Ross (city appointee)
•Vice Chairman Paul Sack (city appointee)
•Secretary/Treasurer Sara Mendoza (Senate appointee)
•Directors Jimmy Fietsam (hospital district appointee), Marcelo Laijas (House appointee), Bill Martin (city appointee), Jesse Perez (city appointee), Marvin Quinney (county appointee), and Diane Savage (Evergreen Underground Water Conservation District appointee).
