1944-2013

Esequiel “Shorty” Hernandez Sr., a lifelong resident of Nixon, passed away on Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, in Gonzales, Texas, at the age of 68 years, 3 months, and 20 days. He was born on Sept. 24, 1944, in Pandora to Faustino and Irene Hernandez.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Fred Hernandez, Johnny Hernandez, and Frank Hernandez; and a sister, Isabel Flores.

Esequiel is survived by his son, Esequiel Hernandez Jr. and wife Veronica of Nixon; sisters Tommie Wallace of Springtown and Patsy Houston of Stockdale; brothers Jimmy Hernandez and Paul Hernandez, both of Pandora, and Tony Hernandez of Floresville; grandsons Kolton Hernandez of La Vernia and Cory Hernandez of Stockdale; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service was held on Thursday, Jan. 17, at 10 a.m. in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Pandora.
