Hardin Kelly Puryear, 92, graduated to glory on Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, while residing in the Frank M. Tejeda Texas State Veterans Home in Floresville. He was born April 30, 1920, in Bellmead, Texas, to Oscar and Ottie Puryear.

Hardin was an American patriot and proudly served in the U.S. Army for 22 years, including World War II and the Korean War. After retiring from the military in July 1960, Hardin proudly served the state of Texas at the General Services Commission in Austin from 1965-82. He resided in Colorado Springs, Colo., from 1983 to 2002, and in Pleasanton from 2002-07. Hardin was a member of the First Baptist Church in Floresville.

Hardin’s family would like to thank the staff of the Frank M. Tejeda Texas State Veterans Home for the compassionate care he received during his two-and-a-half years as a resident.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Frieda.

Hardin is survived by his children, Rosemary Hofmayer of Florissant, Mo., Calvin Puryear and wife Susie of Austin, and Sandra Smith and husband Terry of Floresville; grandchildren Tanya McLaughlin and husband Robert of Florissant, Mo., Erik Puryear and Stacy Puryear of Austin, Bethany Smith of Houston, and Rachel Smith of Floresville; and three great-grandchildren, Amber, Joshua, and Cassidy McLaughlin of Florissant, Mo.
