Offer condolences


Herman Joseph Bednarz, a lifelong resident of Poth, Texas, entered eternal rest Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at 10:31 p.m. in the Frank M. Tejeda Texas State Veterans Home in Floresville, at the age of 92 years, 3 months, and 23 days. Herman was born Sept. 17, 1920, in Poth, the son of Otto and Emilia Winkler Bednarz.

He attended Poth High School, and was a mechanic for many years. Herman married Henrietta Bohac on Nov. 18, 1946, in Ammannsville, Fayette County. Henrietta, Herman’s beloved wife of more than 63 years, preceded Herman in death on April 5, 2010. Herman proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a member of the VFW, Post 8555. He was a lifelong member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Poth, and was a faithful member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Henrietta Bohac Bednarz; and his sister, Freida Hunt.

Herman is survived by his daughter, Teresa Hudec and husband Jerry of Weimar; his son, Steven C. Bednarz and wife Fawn of Floresville; his grandchildren, Jeanene Goodwin and husband Jeff, J. Keith Hudec and wife Vicki, Christine Mulholland and husband Jake, Cheryl Pekar and husband Matt, Jennifer Scott and husband Mark, and Michelle Sturm and husband Justin; and his great-grandchildren, Carson and Conner Goodwin, J. Taiton Hudec, and Paden and Wade Mulholland.

Visitation was held on Monday, Jan. 14, at 5 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Poth.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Poth officiated by the Rev. Andrzej Waszczenko.

Interment followed in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Cemetery in Poth.

Serving as pallbearers were David Bohac, Jeff Goodwin, Keith Hudec, Robert Hunt, Jake Mulholland, Matt Pekar, Mark Scott, and Justin Sturm.
