George Anthony Dziuk
George Anthony Dziuk, formerly of Falls City, but a longtime resident of Floresville, Texas, entered eternal rest on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at 12:12 p.m. in the Mission Trail Baptist Hospital in San Antonio at the age of 83 years, 8 months, and 3 days. George was born May 9, 1929, in Panna Maria, the son of Louis Benjamin and Josephine S. Petrucha Dziuk.
He attended Falls City schools until he had to quit to help take over the family ranch when his father died at a young age. George entered the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 and proudly served his country. He was a gunner’s mate onboard the ship U.S.S. Ogelethorpe for four years. He served on two world cruises and three invasions in Korea under President Truman, and was a lifetime member of VFW Post No. 8555. After his discharge from the Navy, George married Virginia Grace Traber on Feb. 19, 1952, in the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Falls City. They settled in Floresville, where George drove trucks for more than 50 years. He was also owner and operator of the Arcadia Theatre in Floresville from 1960-79.
George was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Jerome “Jerry” Dziuk, Anton “Fritz” Dziuk, and Rudolf “Rudy” Dziuk.
George is survived by his beloved wife of more than 60 years, Virginia Grace Traber Dziuk; his children, Yvonne Moseley and husband Cecil, Reagan Dziuk and wife Marilyn, James Dziuk and wife Sophie, and Annette Dziuk; his grandchildren, Jason Moseley and wife Jennifer, Justin Moseley and wife Terry, Dakota, Dalton, and Dillon Dziuk, Ashlynn, Alyssa, and Avery Villarreal, and Rhianna Schoonover and husband James; his great- grandchildren, Aiden and Blake Moseley, and Sydney, Seraphyn, and Shyanna Schoonover; his siblings, Thomas Ray Dziuk and wife Sylvia, Dolores Kotara and husband Frank, and Louis “Pat” Dziuk and wife Loretta; and his sisters-in-law, Rosalie Dziuk, Rachel Dziuk, and Wilma Dziuk.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, Jan. 15, at 5 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville. A funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville, officiated by the Rev. Stefan Wiera.
Interment, with military honors, followed in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Floresville.
Serving as pallbearers were Alex Torres, Lester Moczygemba, Jason Moseley, Justin Moseley, Dakota Dziuk, and Dalton Dziuk.
Serving as honorary pallbearers were Dillon Dziuk, Ashlynn, Alyssa, and Avery Villarreal, and Aiden and Blake Moseley.
The family requests memorials be made to Connally Memorial Medical Center, 499 10th St., Floresville, TX 78114; or to the charity of one’s choice.
