Sacred Heart School in Floresville is celebrating its 80th year of educating area youth.

The school will mark this anniversary during Catholic Schools Week, Sunday, Jan. 27, through Saturday, Feb. 2. The school joins other Catholic schools throughout the Archdiocese of San Antonio with the theme, “Catholic Schools Raise the Standards.” Community members are invited to help celebrate during some of the events, such as:

•Sunday, Jan. 27: Spaghetti dinner, 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., $7 per plate, Sacred Heart Parish Hall, behind the church on Trail Street.

•Tuesday, Jan. 29: Students will release 80 red balloons to mark the school’s 80th year.

The Sacred Heart School students also will participate in a science fair and breakfast on the grounds during the weeklong celebration, which will culminate with a Mass, movie, and “pizza on the patio” on Friday, Feb. 1.

The 80th anniversary celebration will continue in the spring with a catered meal. Watch for more information about this event in a future issue of this newspaper.
