FHS January students of the month
Melanie Reed and Sheldon Snyder
Floresville High School’s January female student of the month is Melanie Reed, the 17-year-old daughter of Robin and Randall Reed.
Melanie is active in several FHS organizations and is a leader among her peers. She currently serves as the president of the Texas Association of Future Educators, is a member of the Link Crew Executive Committee, and serves as the Link Crew Applause Committee chairperson.
Melanie is a member in good standing with the National Honor Society, and was named the Outstanding Student of the Year for Pre-AP English.
Melanie has also been successful in her athletic endeavors. She was this year’s team captain for the varsity volleyball team. She was named Academic All-District for volleyball the past two years and was named to the Honorable Mention All-District team last year. This year, Melanie was named All-District 1st Team. As a member of the varsity track team, Melanie won first place in the 200-meter dash and second place in the 100-meter dash at the district meet. Melanie has also volunteered her time assisting at the high school volleyball tournaments and track meets.
She has worked at the Arcadia Theater since July 2012.
Upon graduation in June, Melanie plans to attend Texas Lutheran University, UTSA, Texas State University, or Schreiner University to pursue a career in family and marriage counseling.
The January male student of the month is Sheldon Snyder. Sheldon is the 18-year-old son of Sandy and Rodney Snyder.
Sheldon has been active in FHS extracurricular activities. As a member of the Mighty Tiger Band, he has qualified for Regional Band and earned 3rd Chair in the bass clarinet section. Sheldon is also a member of the varsity tennis team. He is the team captain and was named to the Academic All-District team.
Sheldon is a member in good standing with the National Honor Society and the Leo Club.
This past summer, Sheldon worked as a lifeguard for the city of San Antonio.
Upon graduation in June, Sheldon plans to attend the U.S. Naval Academy, where he will major in political science.
