Alice Polendo Templeton, 71, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away in her home in San Antonio on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013. Alice was born May 22, 1941, in Stockdale to Ben and Genoveva (Lopez) Polendo, and later graduated from Our Lady of the Lake High School in San Antonio, where she was raised.

She honorably served her country, having been formerly enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. Later, she moved to Jefferson City, Mo., where she lived for 43 years to raise her family. Alice earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia College and worked for the state of Missouri, retiring from the Missouri Employment Security Department of Corrections in 2006.

Her mother; sister Elena Polendo; grandson Cody Ratliff; and great-granddaughter Adriana Logan-Bax-Templeton preceded her in death.

Alice is survived by her children, Andrea Templeton, Alisa Denney and husband Scott, Tony Templeton and wife Gayle, Allen Templeton and wife Tammy, Anita Shaffer and husband Grant, and Alane Iven; her father, Ben Polendo; her brothers, Benito Polendo and wife Margie and Abel Polendo and wife Esther; and her sister, Anita Polendo. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Monica Polendo, Natalie Polendo, Ashley Emmerich, Adam Denney, Aerik Denney, Anna Denney, Eli Templeton, Levi Templeton, Destiny Galbreath, Avery Templeton, Isaac Templeton, Jarek Templeton, Alex Shaffer, Garrett Shaffer, Luke Shaffer, Dale Shaffer, Amber Iven, Taylor Iven, and Crystal Iven; great-grandchildren Makenzie Denney, Brooke Denney, and Jada Galbreath; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held Wednesday, Jan. 23, from 5-8 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in Stockdale with a rosary recited at 7 p.m.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Stockdale with the Rev. Dennis Jarzombek officiating.

Interment, with military honors, followed in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Stockdale.
