Rebecca “Susie” Blubaugh, 57, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, in her home in Centennial, Colo., in the company of her loving family after fighting a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Susie was born on Dec. 27, 1955, to Joe and Pauline Schwertlich Pavliska in Floresville, Texas.

Her inspiring strength and undeniable spirit moved all who knew her. Strength and spirit were Susie’s trademarks, as well as her unbelievable smile. She was the fifth of six very close and loving siblings. This is where she developed and became the nurturing and family-oriented woman she was. She seemed to be able to pull the best quality from those around her. She would credit her mother and father, her sisters, Polly and Liz, and her brothers, Joe Bob, James, and Jeff, for the values and lessons learned at a young age -- just like her to not take the credit.

As she reached the age of 23, she met the love of her life, Richard Blubaugh. She soon became the most positive influence in his life. She filled his life with love and embraced his children, Mason and Ryan, as her own. The song “All You Need is Love” was the soundtrack of their lives together, filled with smiles, hugs, laughs, and joy. During this time she showed just how adaptable and capable she was as the family moved from Texas to Denver, then on to Wyoming, and from Wyoming to Moab, Utah, finding employment and showing her talent in each location. In Moab, Susie really found her place, making a lovely home and garden while working in the radio business.

Susie then brought another angel into the world as her daughter Launa was born. Susie’s love continued to grow to fit her growing family and all the wonderful friends that became a part of it. After Moab, the family moved to Grand Junction, where she became an integral part of a dentist’s office and was active in the lives of her children. Centennial was the next stop and this is where she found her stride again. She became a PTO president, an active member of the community, and showed her further dedication to the family as Richard’s mother, June, moved in with them. She was busy all the time with kids, Grandma June, PTO, work, and just keeping it all together. She made it look easy. She nurtured and helped raise dozens of kids. She became friend and mother to all, earning the title, “Queen B.”

She epitomized unconditional love mixed with common sense and everything associated with Mom, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and grandmother. She was the best of all of us. She was the best at everything, especially matters of the heart. She will be missed by all who knew her. She will always be remembered ... but that is not enough. All should try to be a little more like her, think a little more like her, give a little more like her, and love a little more like her, said her family.

Susie is survived by her husband of 33 years, Richard; their children, Mason, Ryan, and Launa; her grandchildren, Bohden and Catelyn; siblings Polly Bayer and husband Bob, Liz Bielefeld and husband Erich, Joe Bob Pavliska and wife Laura Lea, James Pavliska and wife Leysa, and Jeff Pavliska and wife Carol; numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews; and one great-great-nephew.

A memorial service was held on Friday, Jan. 25, at 11 a.m. in the Horan & McConaty Funeral Home in Denver, Colo.

A local memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 2, at 11 a.m. in the SPJST Hall in Floresville.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Lustgarten Foundation in honor of Rebecca S. Blubaugh, 1111 Stewart Ave., Bethpage, NY 11714, or
