Letter: Local resident extends appreciation to Floresville PD
I read the letter from the Floresville Police Officers Association that was written to the City of Floresville, citing your pride in serving our city, and the fact that you appreciate the trust that is bestowed upon the police of our small town.
I knew you were not paid well, but to see that y’all had just gotten a small raise from $13 an hour to $15 an hour floors me.
Before I quit my job at Dillard’s as a salesclerk at North Star Mall, I was making $13 an hour and that was just to start! I can hardly believe that an officer puts his life in harm’s way each and every time he goes out of his door to go on duty for such a few dollars. It blows my mind. As a sister of a retired San Antonio police sergeant, I know of the fear that the family lives in when you hear of an officer harmed while on duty. There are a million and one ways a police officer can be harmed that people do not even think about. Not only physically, but mentally as well. These officers see things that no human should see, and for our officers here in Floresville to have been paid such a mere sum as they were, and still are, I am sorry.
I just wanted your association to know that I care, that I pray for them each night, and that I truly appreciate them and the wonderful job that they are doing.
