Maria “Chelo” Consuelo Gonzales, a lifelong resident of Poth, Texas, passed away Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at 6:17 a.m. in the Methodist Hospital in San Antonio at the age of 74 years, 9 months, and 5 days. Chelo was born April 26, 1938, in McCoy, the daughter of Guillermo “Willie” and Sapopana Barrera Garcia.

She attended Fashing School and was a homemaker. Chelo married Alberto Gonzales Sr. on Aug. 16, 1956. Alberto, Chelo’s beloved husband of 44 years, preceded her in death on Sept. 16, 2000. Chelo was a member of Living Word Ministries Church in Poth.

Chelo was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alberto Gonzales Sr.; her infant son, Pedro Gonzales; and her siblings, Guillermo “Willie” Garcia Jr., Johnnie Garcia, and Guadalupe Gauna.

She is survived by her children, Albert Gonzales Jr. and wife Julie and Josie Molina and husband Ray, all of Poth; her grandchildren, Valerie Hibdon, Albert Gonzales III, Laura Nicole Gonzales, Selena Janelle Johnson, Ray Molina, Veronica Lynn Molina, and Destiny Molina; her great-grandchildren, Brandon, Brian, Joe Aiden, Mia Star, Ezra Luke, and Bella Amor; her siblings, Richard Garcia and wife Minnie and Trinidad Garcia and wife Rosa, all of Plains, Emilo Garcia and Mary Lou Marroquin, both of San Antonio, and Olivia Guerra and husband Baldomaro of Red Rock; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Friday, Feb. 1, at 5 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Poth.

A funeral service was held on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the funeral chapel officiated by the Rev. Eloy Trevino and Co-Pastor Julie Gonzales of Living Word Ministry.

Interment followed in the Emmanuel Assembly of God Cemetery in Poth.

Serving as pallbearers were Ian Johnson, Ray Molina Sr., Ray Molina Jr., Chris Sanchez, Ruben Hernandez, and Brandon Gonzales.
