POTH -- Wilson County Sheriff Joe D. Tackitt Jr. confirmed at 2:20 p.m. that divers from the Texas Department of Public Safety have recovered the bodies of three males from a stock tank on F.M. 427 near C.R. 225 northeast of here. This was after the sport-utility vehicle (SUV) in which they were traveling became submerged in the tank after crashing through a fence just after 4 a.m. Feb. 6.

Tackitt said that only one of the males recovered possessed identification; that victim was 21. The others are believed to be even younger.

The sheriff said that Deputy Blake Breieden reported spotting two Chevrolet SUVs traveling together on F.M. 427. One of the vehicles only had one working headlight, which is why the deputy initiated a traffic stop approximately one mile from C.R. 225, Tackitt said. When the deputy exited his vehicle, the SUV sped off down F.M. 427, crashed through a fence near C.R. 225, entered a pasture and landed in a stock tank.

Tackitt said the other vehicle fled in an unknown direction of travel. The occupants of both vehicles, he said, are believed to be from Guatemala. Officials captured 11 males and 1 female, who were transported to the Wilson County Jail pending transfer to federal custody.
