Re: “A voice for animals,” Jan. 23

Since writing my past article, “A voice for animals,” I’ve read some of the comments people have posted and frankly one pulled my heartstrings.

There was a driver that witnessed another driver that sped up to hit a dog and was smiling about it. That sank my heart knowing I live in a world where people are just plain cruel and don’t respect life. I’m writing again on behalf of the animals and this time I want to be heard.

After writing my article I have seen two more animals run over on the highway here in Poth and Floresville. I understand sometimes it’s an accident, but I also notice people do it on purpose. Animals are companions, best friends. They are not meant to be abused for our amusement.

I would like to see signs upon entering towns/cities showing dogs/cats crossing just like there are for deer crossing so people can watch out for animals and know sometimes animals do get out of their back yards. Who wants to drive through town and see pets lying on the road?

Some people might read this and just laugh and think this is silly, but I only say what my heart and mind want me to. Some people have a heart for animals and that is truly me, and I am proud to say that I stand up for them when they can’t.

God put animals on Earth for a reason, for Him to see that we respect all walks of life, even four-legged ones.

So citizens of Wilson County, I’m begging: Please try to avoid hitting animals if possible. Don’t speed up. That just shows how evil some people truly are.

Martin Luther King Jr. said, “Never, never be afraid to do what’s right, especially if the well-being of a person or animal is at stake. Society’s punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way.”

I also find it telling that 'an officer on the state and Federal level for over 30 years' was apparently unaware of the law, but a layman was able to pull it right up. Grouch is right.. paycheck for nothing.

POFPO, whether you CHOOSE to enforce the law is a totally different discussion. They remain criminals whether you choose to enforce the law or not. I find it sad that you took an oath to enforce the law and yet apparently gleefully ... More ›
