The 81st Judicial District Attorney’s office is seeking candidates for the position of an Administrative Assistant. Duties will include but not limited to: answering incoming calls and greeting visitors, prepare discovery for defense bar as required, providing administrative and clerical support to the ADAs and District Attorney, assist in general office work and perform related duties as follows: Operate a multi-line telephone switchboard, proficient use of software applications and computer equipment, scanning and compiling files for eDiscovery, filing and creating court files, generating reports as required. Applicants must have at least five (5) years of administrative assistant experience, strong computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) ability to multi-task, excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Azalene Marie Elder, 87, of Smiley, Texas, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, in Cuero. She was born in Gonzales County on Sept. 3, 1925, the daughter of James Oscar and Johnnie Pinina (Cooper) McFarland.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Bruce Elder; her sisters, Hattie Mae Lewis, Jean Redmon, Johnnie L. Witzel, and Donnie Wight; her brother, Bob McFarland; her stepbrothers, J.R. Stewart and Merrill Kelly Stewart; and her stepsister, Ava O’Neal.

Azalene is survived by three sons, Paul Elder and wife Mary Beth, John Elder, and Russell Elder; her grandchildren, David Brian Elder and Christopher Elder; her great-grandchildren, David Marshal Elder and Cathrine Grace Elder; her sister, Dorothy O’Neal; and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as other relatives and many friends.

Visitation was held Friday, Feb. 8, from 9-10 a.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in Nixon.

A funeral service was held Friday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Marvin Miles officiating.

Interment followed in the Union Hill Cemetery near Nixon.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
