We are excited to announce our entertainment lineup for Jubilee 2013. Friday, June 14, will feature concerts by “Turnpike Troubadours” and Stoney LaRue, while Saturday, June 15, will feature concerts by Jason Eady, “Cody Canada & The Departed,” and “Reckless Kelly.”

Royalty

Festivities for the 69th annual Stockdale Watermelon Jubilee will commence on Saturday, June 1, with the Former Queens Tea at 2 p.m. in the Stockdale High School cafeteria.

Queen Melone LXIX and her Court will be crowned on Saturday, June 8, at 7 p.m. in the Stockdale Elementary cafeteria.

If your son or daughter is interested in participating in the Jubilee or Rodeo courts, please contact Dusty Wehmeyer to register on or before Thursday, Feb. 28, at 830-477-6077 or via email at dustywehmeyer@yahoo.com.

The contests for Queen Melone and Miss Rodeo Stockdale are open to incoming sophomore through senior ladies at Stockdale High School. The contests for Jubilee Princess and Rodeo Princess are open to incoming sixth-grade through ninth-grade girls. The contests for Little Miss Stockdale, Little Mr. Stockdale, Little Miss Rodeo, and Little Mr. Rodeo are open to incoming kindergarten through fourth-grade Stockdale students. This is a fabulous way to represent the city of Stockdale and our Watermelon Jubilee, in addition to earning great prizes and scholarships.

Watermelon-growing Contest

Once again, Jubilee weekend will kick off on Thursday, June 13, with TWA live professional wrestling beginning at 7 p.m. in the Stockdale City Park. Judging and weigh-in for the Watermelon-growing Contest will also take place on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at 1009 West Jackson St. in Stockdale.

The Watermelon-growing Contest is open to any resident of Wilson County and the surrounding area. Any variety of melon may be entered. Entry fee is $25 plus five ripe melons, if money is received on or before Friday, May 31. Entry fee is $50 plus five ripe melons, if money is received after May 31, but before 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12.

Entry fees may be mailed to: Stockdale Chamber of Commerce, ATTN: Watermelon Growing Contest, P.O. Box 578, Stockdale, TX 78160.

No entries will be accepted after 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12. Donated melons may be turned in on day of weigh-in.

The heaviest melon will be declared “King of the Jubilee!” All entries will become the property of the Stockdale Chamber of Commerce. The winner is guaranteed $500 cash prize and trophy and is invited to be the primary watermelon seller at the 2014 Watermelon Jubilee. Second-place winner is guaranteed $250 cash prize; third place, $100 cash prize. The winning melon and its grower(s) will be invited to participate in the Watermelon Jubilee Parade on Saturday, June 15. The top grower will be introduced at halftime of the Jubilee rodeo performance on Friday, June 14. Prospective vendors for the Jubilee should contact Betty Soto at jubileevendors@hotmail.com for information packets or more information. Also check our website at www.stockdaletx.org for more information and entry forms.

The next regular meeting of the Stockdale Chamber of Commerce will be held Monday, Feb. 25, at 7 p.m. in the offices of the Stockdale Economic Development Corp. We are actively seeking potential new members and directors for our board. Please plan to attend our meeting if you are interested in becoming more involved in any of our activities.
