Eagle Ford: Frio County leaders meet lawmakers, promote Eagle Ford initiatives
PEARSALL -- Frio County Judge Carlos Garcia and Richard Graf, County Commissioner, Pct. 2, were in Austin recently to meet with state legislators. “We learned state leaders are genuinely interested to hear more about issues affecting 14 counties in communities of the Eagle Ford energy exploration region,” Garcia said.
Eagle Ford shale is a positive economic revenue stream for the state and local communities. As a result, exponential growth has added challenges for the demand of public services and currently exhausting inadequate and substandard infrastructure in several economically disadvantaged counties.
Last month, Frio County Commissioners Court adopted a first time ever State Legislative Agenda and a “State of the County Address.” Both are roadmaps outlining priority issues and the need for infrastructure funding mechanisms from state resources.
“State lawmakers want to hear from other local elected leaders as they pursue key policies to help our region,” Garcia said. “We were warmly welcomed and they expressed concern.”
Frio County Commis-sioners Court continues to take an active role to engage potential businesses with marketing strategies. During the 83rd State Legislature, they will be pursuing state leaders to approve policies for counties to enhance roadways, public safety, environmental protection, and initiatives aimed to promote community economic development.
