The Sam Fore Jr. Wilson County Public Library in Floresville invites all to visit the reading room, where photographs taken by local artist and retired Floresville teacher R. Gene Harrison are on display.

Harrison’s interest in photography began in 1955 after purchasing an Argo Flash Camera that was ordered from the back of a Superman comic book. He studied at several institutions, graduating from Northeastern State University in 1973. Harrison later became the director of photographic services at Northeastern, where he also taught darkroom techniques and photography. Additionally, he taught photography at Laredo State University for three years.

Several highlights during his career were meeting and photographing great photographers Ansel Adams and Arthur Rothstein, astronaut Sally Ride, and celebrities Ronnie Milsap, Alan Alda, Merle Haggard, and Jerry Lewis, to name a few.

For more information, call 830-393-7361.
