FALLS CITY -- Things are good in Falls City these days, especially if you are a member of the Beaverette basketball team. The girls in blue and white not only won the District 30-1A D1 title, they enjoyed a first-round bye in the playoffs, and then made things look pretty easy en route to another area championship. The team is now heading into regional play, and has its sights set on a title and state tournament appearance.

The Beaverettes took on the Lady Badgers of Ben Bolt last Friday evening in an area championship game, and Falls City controlled the game from the opening tipoff.

While the Lady Badgers managed just 6 points in the first period, the Beaverettes scored nearly three times as many points, and took a 16-6 advantage into the second period. The gap narrowed slightly for the eight-minute block of basketball, but Falls City still outscored Ben Bolt 12-8, and took a 28-14 lead into the break.

As the teams returned to the floor, Falls City picked up on its defensive effort and allowed the Lady Badgers to score just 5 points through eight minutes of play. Meanwhile, the Beaverettes doubled up on Ben Bolt, scoring 11 points and taking a 39-19 cushion into the final stanza.

The Lady Badgers had their best scoring period of the night in the fourth, putting 11 points on the board. Even without the 15 Falls City scored, though, it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit. Falls City cruised to the final buzzer, and a 54-30 victory.

Haleigh Blocker and Shaw Moy led the way for Falls City with 15 points each, followed by Kayla Kotara and Kayla Purcell with 6 points apiece.

The Beaverettes were scheduled to face Shiner in the regional quarterfinals. The game was set for Feb. 19 in Nixon, with a 7 p.m. tipoff.
