Tigers close district with win, finish as co-champs

FLORESVILLE -- The Floresville Tiger basketball team finished up district play on the road against the Southside Cardinals.

The Tigers once again got off to a slow start, shooting poorly and allowing the Cardinals to finish the first quarter up by 5. The Tigers turned it around in the second quarter, though, hitting from beyond the arc and controlling the boards and getting some easy put-backs that resulted in a 9-point lead at the half. The Tigers continued to shoot well and control the boards in the second half, eventually wrapping up the 44-29 victory.

Charlie Albert led the Tigers offensively with 21 points and 7 rebounds, followed by Mason Ray with 11 points. The win wrapped up a district co-championship for the Tigers, who finish 13-1 in district play.

The Tigers first playoff game was scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 19, in Beeville. Floresville was set to face the Tuloso-Midway Warriors in a bi-district battle. Tipoff was set for 8 p.m.
