STOCKDALE -- Two men are undergoing treatment for their injuries following a Feb. 20 crash at approximately 1 p.m. that involved a water tanker truck on northbound U.S. 87 approximately 4 miles northwest of here.

According to Trooper Harold Estep of the Texas Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol, the truck’s driver -- identified as 23-year-old Mario Guerrero -- reported that he had fallen asleep, which caused the truck to drift into the left-hand guardrail. When he awoke, the truck was leaving the roadway, prompting him to turn the wheel sharply to the right, which caused the truck to skid out of control and land on its driver’s side.

Both lanes leading up to the northbound span of a bridge over the Cibolo Creek were blocked by the truck, which is owned by Houston-based T-Rex Services. Chief Edwin Baker of the Stockdale Volunteer Fire Department said the northbound lanes of U.S. 87 could be closed for as long as four hours.

The Stockdale Emergency Medical Services transported Guerrero and his passenger, identified as Albert Hart, to the Connally Memorial Medical Center in Floresville. Information about their conditions was not immediately available.

And there is a tremendous amount of traffic in that area. Drive safely folks.

I came up on this just as the ambulance was leaving -- took me 30 minutes to get around it. Hope the people aren't hurt too badly. Organization by DPS and Stockdale EMS was amazing, had traffic moving by (slowly, but moving!)
