High Wind Gusts Knock Out Power to More than 31,000 CPS Customers
Reminder to treat all downed power lines as if they are live
As high winds continue to move through San Antonio, CPS Energy crews are working to restore power to roughly 22,000 customers. High winds began affecting the area this morning and are expected to remain until at least sunset. As many as 31,145 customers were without power shortly before 2 p.m.
Winds with speeds of 35 miles per hour (mph) and wind gusts up to 50 mph have knocked down poles and wires throughout the city. Any downed lines should be treated as if they are live and should not be touched or moved. To report a downed power line, call (210) 353-HELP (4357).
CPS Energy advises affected customers to locate a flashlight and battery-powered radio and be prepared for the possibility of an extended outage. All crews will continue to work through the night but some customers may not have power restored until tomorrow.
Customers are advised to:
• Keep one light turned on to know when power has been restored.
• Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed to keep food cold longer.
• Use caution with candles and generators, carefully placing them so as not to create a fire or carbon monoxide poisoning hazard.
