I just heard that a sink hole swallowed a grown
man in Florida. This is a clear present and future
danger to residents of Wilson county. I hope that the
county commissioners take notice and ban all sink holes
in the county.

It is my sincere opinion that one's life would
be greatly enhanced if the only laws existing upon
their death are those that existed at their birth.
The most dangerous threat to one's pursuit of happiness
are the following phrases "It could happen." and
"There ought to be a law." It's sorta like that old
song lyrics "I gotta along before I met you, I gonna
get along without you now."

Why snakes have rights too. Maybe even entitlements, even if they are here illegally. Therefore if the risk of escape is miniscule, the premium on the $100,000.00 insurance policy to cover the cost of recovery in case of escape, would be very low and not a burden at all on the owner of the potential escapee. Maybe we need a federal law to cover this.

Dr. Hill mistakenly believed that dart frogs are poisonous. Wild dart frogs secrete toxins which they incorporate from the wild insects they eat, whom obtain the substances from plants native to their homelands. This is simply not even possible in a dart frog fed captive raised fruit flies and worms. Suggesting that all people should be prevented from enjoying animals that have just the potential to be dangerous is the exact same thing as taking guns away from everyone because the bad actions of a few. If this logic were followed, we would have no horses, no cows, dogs, even donkeys or goats (all of whom kill more people than snakes) In the herpetological community we are working to create an apprenticeship program in which a new snake keeper would be required to demonstrate skill, much the way SCUBA certifications are issued, before being allowed to keep animals on the controlled exotic snake list. These snakes inspire some people and bring joy to their lives. Many people have been keeping them for decades with no problems. Venom research is important for human medicine- and yes-there are large facilities not so far from Wilson County that house hundreds of venomous snakes for this purpose. Smaller private keepers are the grassroots of this research. They are the ones that learned how to keep the animals alive in captivity and many specimens used in research were bred and donated by captive breeders. We DO NOT even keep venomous snakes, but feel that a ban based on nothing but fanciful fears is wrong. Perhaps even more-so than when people call for bans on pit bulls, for example- animals that ACTUALLY HAVE (on multiple occasions) escaped their homes and killed people-something no escaped pet snake has done, anywhere in the United States, ever. Responsible pet ownership- be it exotic snake or dog- is the norm. Education and enforcement of current laws is much more productive than a ban.
