The 81st Judicial District Attorney’s office, which includes Frio, La Salle, Atascosa, Karnes and Wilson Counties, is accepting resumes for an Assistant District Attorney position. Responsibilities of the position include felony intake, preparation of cases for grand jury, negotiating pleas and assisting law enforcement, assisting with Border Prosecution Cases and representation of the State of Texas in pretrial proceedings, as well as in criminal bench trials and jury trials in District Court. EC Hornets bumped from postseason play

SAN ANTONIO -- After finishing the regular season with a 117-58 blowout win over Corpus Christi King, the East Central Hornet basketball team was feeling good as it headed into the playoffs. Unfortunately for the Black and Gold, the playoffs ended as quickly as they began, as the Hornets fell to Taft 50-46 in the first round of play.

East Central and Taft squared off in the bi-district round of play Feb. 19. The Hornets came out a little flat in the first half, and the Raiders took advantage. Taft outscored East Central 11-8 in the first period, and doubled up on the Hornets in the second period, outscoring East Central 14-7 in the second to take a 25-15 lead into the locker room.

The Hornets came out strong in the second half, scoring 17 points in the third period alone. Taft put another 14 of their own on the board, and maintained a 39-32 lead heading into the final period of play. The Hornets once again outscored the Raiders in the final stanza, but came up a bit short in the end, as Taft secured the win 50-46, and advanced to the second round of playoffs.

Junior Brandon McClure led the Hornets with 13 points on the night, followed by fellow junior Ceddrick Ali with 10 points. Armand Francois scored 6, Jeremy Jones scored 5 points, and Albert Jimenez was good for another 4. Jermaine Dotson and Willie Covington each scored 2 points.

With the loss, the Hornets end their season with an overall record of 21-13, and the team was 7-3 in District 28-5A play.
