In celebration of their 25th year in operation, members of the Children’s Hospital Trail Ride are hoping to surpass last year’s contribution to the Children’s Hospital of San Antonio of $49,000, by hosting their first event of the year.

The seventh annual team roping will be held Friday and Saturday, March 1-2, at the Mesquite Hall in Adkins. The event is free and open to the public.

Friday’s event is a No. 13 roping -- no cap. Ropers may enter one, draw three; or enter open and draw four. Cost is $125 per roper, with a 70 percent cash payout. Books open at 6 p.m., and close at 7 p.m. after draw.

Saturday’s event includes a Beginners Round Robin, and is limited to a 10x10, for $100 per roper. Belt buckles will be awarded to first-, second-, and third-place finishers. Books open at 8 a.m.. with roping set to begin at 8:45 a.m.

Also on Saturday, a No. 8 (capped at a four) and a No. 10 (capped at a six) will be held. Ropers may enter one and draw three; or enter open and draw four. Cost is $100 per roper. Ropings will run separately. Books for the No. 8 roping open at 9 a.m. and will start immediately after the Round Robin.

A horse trailer will be given to the high-point roper of the No. 8 and No. 10. Prizes for No. 8 and No. 10 are: saddles for first place; belt buckles for second place; stirrups for third place; breast collars for fourth place; and, as always, great cash payouts. Producer has the right to reclassify.

Children’s Hospital Trail Ride is a nonprofit organization in its 25th year of operation. The group is dedicated to providing funds to the Children’s Hospital of San Antonio, which is still benefiting the Christus Santa Rosa Health System for the kids to purchase new equipment to meet the unique needs of the children of South Texas.
