POTH (Revision 3/1/13) -- Officials have confirmed that a 19-year-old New Braunfels resident has died after being flown from the scene of a single-vehicle crash this morning on F.M. 541 east of here.

Trooper Harold Estep of the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Highway Patrol told the Wilson County News at 2:45 p.m. that the victim, identified as Ronaldo Cruz, was pronounced dead at University Hospital in San Antonio. Cruz was flown to the hospital via AirLife helicopter after being extricated from his 2003 Mercury Sable by members of the Floresville and Poth volunteer fire departments.

Estep said there were no witnesses to the crash, which occurred at 10 a.m. The preliminary investigation revealed that Cruz’s vehicle veered off the right side of the roadway and that he overcorrected upon re-entering the roadway, causing the Mercury to go into a side skid before impacting a tree on the roadside.
