James Harrell Tipton, 81, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, in New Braunfels. He was born on July 26, 1931, in Floresville, Texas, to Harrell Park and Beuna Mae Tipton.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be dearly missed. Harrell was honored to have graduated from Baylor University and worked more than 38 years at Straus Frank of San Antonio. He was a longtime member of the San Antonio First Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his previous wife, Harriet Tipton; son Mike Tipton; and brother Matt Tipton.

Harrell is survived by his wife, Karlene Tipton; two children, Rell Tipton and wife Elizabeth and Melanie Head and husband Ralph; daughter-in-law Edna Tipton; seven grandchildren, Scott Head, Michelle Head, Warren Head, Park Tipton, Meredith Holbert, Nathan Tipton, and Sarah Figueroa; and two brothers, Ronald Tipton and Larry Tipton.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, March 5, from 5-7 p.m. in the Sunset Funeral Home in San Antonio.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at noon in the funeral home chapel.

Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park in San Antonio.

Memorial contributions may be made to the San Antonio First Baptist Church, 515 McCullough, San Antonio, TX 78215.
