James ‘Jim’ Musquiz Weaver
James “Jim” Musquiz Weaver, a lifelong resident of Graytown, passed away on Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at the age of 68 years, 3 months, and 3 days. He was born on Nov. 22, 1944, in San Antonio, Texas, to Pablo and Francesca Musquiz Weaver.
Known to many as Jim, he came from a big family of seven brothers and five sisters and learned to work hard at an early age on the ranch, plowing the fields, working cattle, and breaking horses. Jim will be affectionately remembered for his generosity and hospitality. He was a neighbor, friend, father, brother, and uncle to many who came into his life over the years. His doors were always open. He taught his sons the meaning of hard work and how to work with their hands. Jim was a businessman, farmer, butcher, and storyteller. He loved to tell stories about the old days, often sharing family history with those around him. Jim also loved to sing and dance, and always had food prepared and was ready to feed whoever was at his door.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Rosie Olivares and Eloise Wilburn and husband Henry; brothers Robert Weaver and wife Della, Paul Weaver and wife Lulu, Fred Weaver and wife Elfrieda, Felix Weaver, and Joe Weaver.
Jim is survived by his children, James Michael Weaver and wife Kristen, Matthew Paul Weaver, Jason Darren Weaver, and Nathan Oliver Weaver, all of Floresville; sisters Dora Saenz and husband Jake of Florida, and Alice Weaver and Frances Weaver, both of Graytown; brother Anthony Weaver of Graytown; grandchildren Julia Weaver, James Paul Weaver, Jude Weaver, Darian Weaver, Hunter Weaver, and Eva Jade Weaver; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at 5 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. in the Franklin Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville. A eulogy was provided by niece Ruby Verastigue.
A funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville with the Rev. Phil Henning officiating. Granddaughter Julia Weaver sang “Amazing Grace.”
Interment followed in the Graytown Cemetery in Wilson County.
Pallbearers were James Michael Weaver, Matthew Weaver, Nathan Oliver Weaver, Anthony Weaver Jr., Fernando Fernandez, and Delbert Weaver.
