Floresville 4A presses city for financial data

FLORESVILLE -- An alleged lack of cooperation from city officials regarding the release of financial data related to operating the Lauro G. De Leon III Floresville Event Center has prompted the Floresville 4A Corp.’s legal counsel to get involved. At the corporation’s Feb. 25 board meeting, the board authorized Rob Killen to draft a letter -- which will be signed by board President Bill Gleeson -- to City Manager Andy Joslin, formally requesting information about the center’s day-to-day costs and debt service.

“I’m the treasurer and I still haven’t gotten an answer,” said board Treasurer Debra Conoly, who claims officials have not honored her requests for the data.

According to the meeting’s agenda, Floresville City Comptroller Lara Feagins was set to deliver a report about the center’s operating costs. But she was unable to attend because of a concurrent meeting of the Floresville City Council and a subsequent meeting of the council’s audit committee. For more about those meetings, see related articles page 1A and right.

“When we set our meeting up, no one knew there would be other meetings [tonight],” Melissa Popham said.

Also during the meeting, the board and event center Administrator Gloria Estrada Martinez discussed possible changes in rental fees that would aid in better cost recovery. A committee including Martinez, Conoly, and Popham was tasked to create a proposal and present it at the board’s next meeting.

“We want to keep everyone happy,” Gleeson said. “But if we want to keep this facility open, we got to pay our bills.”

In attendance: Board members Bill Gleeson, Melissa Popham, Paige Pullin, and Debra Conoly; Lauro G. De Leon III Floresville Event Center Administrator Gloria Martinez, and Rob Killen and Mitsuko Ramos of Kaufman and Killen.

Shut down the 4A - total waste of money. Nobody moves to Floresville because of any activity related to them. Any business here woud have come without them. Shut it down.
