Special meetings set for Friday, March 8

FLORESVILLE -- The absence of three of the six voting members of the Floresville City Council’s audit committee from the March 4 meeting could delay the city’s efforts to rid itself of financial insolvency.

Approximately five minutes after the meeting’s scheduled start of 6 p.m. Councilman Jim Miller, the committee’s chairman, declared the meeting canceled for lack of a quorum. He said that City Manager Andy Joslin would not make the meeting because of a family emergency and that Councilman Eric Rodriguez was unable to make the meeting in time. Rodriguez arrived at City Hall minutes after the meeting was canceled.

Mayor Diana Garza confirmed that Councilman Sherry Martinez Castillo had submitted a letter of resignation from the committee. Upon Miller’s request, the city posted agendas Tuesday for special meetings March 8 to appoint a replacement for Castillo and to address the audit committee business. Maybe Castillo believes Floresville doesn't have a debt problem. It's easy to spend money but hard to figure out how to pay the bill.
