NPR interview, Cuellar meeting part of itinerary

FLORESVILLE -- Mayor Diana Garza of Floresville is on a mission to Washington, D.C., where she is meeting with officials including U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar, to plead for help with her city’s current financial challenges. Garza talked about her trip in an interview heard today on the National Public Radio (NPR) show “Tell Me More.”

The interview, titled “Small Towns Struggle Too” with host Michel Martin, can be accessed online via this link: http://n.pr/ZhTZP7. In it, Martin draws parallels between the nation’s financial crisis and similar angst felt by cities as large as Detroit and as small as Floresville.

Garza talks about Floresville’s woes and explains how the city was ill- prepared for the housing shortages, population boom, increase in traffic, and lodging needs brought about by the ongoing petrochemical exploration of the Eagle Ford shale. Garza told Martin that she made the trip to the nation’s capitol -- which includes a visit to her “friend Henry” -- on her own time and with her own money.

OK, Squawk. I googled Jose Jimenez. I had forgotten that he was the fictional character invented by Bill Dana. Dana was born in 1924 but is still involved. He even has a blog. He made Jose FAMOUS!

Jose Jimenez died in 1970 at the hands of the Frito Bandito. The Frito Bandito went into hiding and gave up his TV career after fleeing the country. The killing happened in Las Vegas over a few chips. PS I think Bill Dana ... More ›

I loved Jose Jimenez -- he could laugh at himself and you could tell he enjoyed it. But political correctness killed him, or at least his character. ... is he still around?
