1928-2013

Beloved mother, Eva Willine Walker Middleton, 85, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, James Thomas Middleton. Willine was born in Monterey, Tenn., on Feb. 24, 1928, the daughter of Willie Lee Walker and Anna Leona Keith.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Jimmy and Charles; and sister Jean.

Willine is survived by her sister, Carolyn Thomas; and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and --nephews.

She graduated from Monterey High School in 1945, where she was a member of the basketball tam and the Beta Club. Willine married James Thomas Middleton March 14, 1946, and thus began a life of travel, adventure, and family.

Willine was the mother of six children, James Middleton Jr. (Sheila), Sandra Middleton-Olsaver (Gary), Michael Middleton (Dee), Karen Koch (James), Kevin Middleton (Wendy), and Sheryl Adkison (George). Friends and family describe her as a kind, thoughtful, and proud mother and grandmother to all of her children and grandchildren. She was very proud of all of her children’s accomplishments, including that James and Kevin are retired San Antonio Police Department officers.

Willine was the grandmother to 16 grandchildren, Mary Christine Haag, Melissa Middleton Olsaver, Ross Everett Olsaver, Corey Wayne Middleton, Connie Lee Ihle, Hugo Martin Koch, Nathan Wayne Middleton, Elisha Marie Middleton, Rhiannon Michelle Middleton, Jacob Houston Middleton, Grayson Walker Middleton, Reagan Arthur Middleton, Philip Robert Vest, and Sarah Willine Middleton Jay. She also had 10 great-grandchildren. Two of her grandchildren preceded her in death, Matthew James Middleton and Audrey Catherine Koch.

In 1980, she was the Bastrop County Republican Precinct Chairman and was a delegate to the Texas State Republican Convention, which helped in the successful election of President Ronald Reagan.

After World War II, Willine married James and began her career as a military wife and especially enjoyed the years stationed in Okinawa. After her husband’s retirement from the military, they traveled extensively throughout the United States. She also enjoyed travel with her children which took her across the United States visiting family, attending horse shows, baseball games, and camping in national parks. One of her favorite trips was to Europe, where she took the train from Zurich through the Alps to Rome to visit her grandson and the Vatican. Another favorite trip was to Hawaii to visit her lifelong friend of more than 50 years, Marilyn O’Sullivan.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Franklin Funeral Home in Floresville. Willine will be interred with her husband at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas, in a private ceremony.
