Update (3/13/13 at 2:25 pm): Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio of Argentina elected pope, will be known as Pope Francis I.

Archbishop will address the media concerning the election of our New Pope tonight and prayerfully celebrate a special Mass.

Press Conference at 6:45 p.m. in the Cathedral Courtyard and
Mass at 7:30 p.m. at San Fernando Cathedral.

Archbishop Gustavo Garc’a-Siller has sent an invitation to all the parishes around the Archdiocese of San Antonio to join in prayer at a Mass of Thanksgiving on the evening of the day when the new pope is elected. Of course, we do not know the date, but the archbishop will preside at this special Mass at 7:30 p.m. at San Fernando Cathedral on the day when the historic selection is made. The media is welcome to cover this moment of grace when it occurs.

Here is the text of the invitation the archbishop sent to the parishes.

To all who await the selection of a new pope with prayerful anticipation:

When the world hears these words of celebration, “Habemus Papam, We have a Pope”, it will be a moment of celebration and thanksgiving. When the Cardinals prepare to elect a new Pontiff, they will begin with the prayer, “Come Creator Spirit”. As we await the outcome, we also prepare with confidence that the Holy Spirit will once again guide the Church in this sacred selection process.

In that spirit, I invite all the faithful to unite with us in prayer at a Mass of Thanksgiving to be celebrated on the evening of the day when the new Pope is announced. The Mass will be held at 7:30 p.m. at San Fernando Cathedral.

I know that many parishes will be planning their own celebration and that for some travel to San Fernando Cathedral may not be possible. However, if you are able to be with us at this prayerful moment of Grace, we would be blessed by your presence.

Please help us share this invitation with your parish, your school, and all your friends.

Sincerely Yours in Christ,

Most Reverend Gustavo Garc’a-Siller, M.Sp.S.
Archbishop of San Antonio

It feels like Christmas morning! Thanks be to God for a "humble reformer" as the Vicor of Christ.
