Polished Edge: Jennifer Love Hewitt of ‘The Client List’ on Lifetime
Q: What’s your overriding feeling about producing and starring in Season 2 of “The Client List”?
A: We’re excited to see what the audience thinks. The show and (main character) Riley’s life have changed quite a bit, and we’ll see how they respond to some of the things coming up.
Q: Though you starred in the movie that inspired the series, that had a somewhat different premise and even a different character for you. Has it surprised you that so many viewers have stayed with the franchise through those changes?
A: It has, and it’s been really nice. We feel lucky. When you do this sort of thing -- especially with the subject matter -- you have no idea if people are going to go, “Uh ... no.” We had great ratings the first year and were really happy with them, and we’re hoping to boost them up even more this year.
Q: Many real-life masseuses were vocal about the problems they had with the way “The Client List” portrays their profession. Have you found that opposition has eased up?
A: I think once they got more into the series, they realized that it was all in good fun. The hate mail hasn’t really been as frequent as it was last season. In fact, I got a Tweet from a woman that said, “I have four kids, and I’m a massage therapist -- not the kind you are on the show, LOL -- and thanks for giving me an escape from my life.” And I thought that was pretty cool.
