Q: How did you come to be one of the investors on “Shark Tank?”

A: Several years ago, I met with (executive producer) Mark Burnett, and he thought I would be right for the show. That’s how it all started.

Q: The session that just finished taping was painful to watch -- the person seemed unprepared for the questions and concerns. How do you feel about it?

A: It was an interesting, clever concept and a way to get into the “Tank.” He convinced the producers to get in here, so I commend him for his ingenuity. But once he came in, he wasn’t a closer.

Q: Do you enjoy making deals in this format?

A: I can tell instantly if something is a hero or a zero, and I do believe that’s true. I have a lot of experience and practice. So for me, I love the format. It’s invigorating and exciting. I still learn every day from the other sharks. But I love it. I’m in my element.

Q: Fellow shark Kevin O’Leary has a prickly on-screen relationship with the other female shark, Barbara Corcoran. How about you?

A: Kevin and I have an interesting relationship. I wouldn’t call it abusive; I’ve learned a way to tame the shark. Let’s put it this way: He doesn’t bite.

Q: How do you get along with shark Mark Cuban?

A: All the time, I’m challenging Mark. But I also listen to what he has to say, because it’s bad when you stop learning.
