Immanuel Lutheran Church is now hiring for a Youth and Family Ministry Director. Pastoral: Minister to youth and their families during Sunday School and other church programs, being present in their lives outside the church walls, available for common concerns and in crisis situations. Leadership: Recruit and nurture Youth and Family Ministry program. Administration : Manage the planning process and coordinate with Pastor and Youth Committee all regular ministries to youth and their families. This includes youth of all ages on Sunday mornings and mid-week events; assisting with Confirmation, special events, trips and retreats, and parent meetings. Stewardship: Ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of youth programs, manage youth ministry budget, and collaborate with the sponsors of each Youth group. Ability to build, lead, and empower youth. Ability to implement a ministry vision. Familiarity with Lutheran Doctrine required; must be comfortable teaching it and representing Lutheran Theology. Proficient computer skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database, email, internet, and social media. Supervisory experience preferred. Ability to adapt and evaluate curriculum preferred. Must have excellent organization, communication (verbal and written), and listening skills, with a high degree of initiative and accountability. Exceptional interpersonal and relational skills required, with sensitivity to church members and visitors. Understanding and enjoyment of youth and families and guiding their spiritual development. 1925-2013

Alfred Dylla Sr., 88, of St. Hedwig, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2013. He was born on March 6, 1925, in St. Hedwig, Texas, to Phillip and Gertrude (Mikolajczyk) Dylla. He was a lifelong farmer, and retired in 1987 from Lone Star Brewery.

Alfred was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife of 38 years, Regina Dylla; sister Regina Dylla Labus; brothers Emil Dylla and Albert Dylla; and granddaughter Erin Dylla.

He is survived by his wife, Alice (Pieniazek) Dylla of St. Hedwig; sons Alfred Dylla Jr. of League City, Richard Dylla and Ernest Dylla, both of St. Hedwig, and Leonard Dylla of La Vernia; daughters Florence Ostrowski of St. Hedwig and Carolyn Fleetwood of San Antonio; stepchildren Lisa Tschoepe and John Pieniazek; sisters Philomena Dylla Grams and Monica Dylla Gaylor; brother Gilbert Dylla; 17 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many loving friends.

Visitation was held on Thursday, March 14, from 5-8 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in La Vernia.

A funeral Mass was held on Friday at 10 a.m. in the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in St. Hedwig with the Rev. Bill Zadora officiating.

Entombment followed in the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Cemetery in St. Hedwig.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
