Billy James Hood
Billy James Hood, a resident of Floresville, Texas, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2013, at 11:12 a.m. in his residence in Floresville, at the age of 87 years, 2 months, and 9 days. Billy was born Jan. 8, 1926, in Carterville, Mo.
He was a carpenter and an inventor who proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Verna Van Pelt in Alaska, and was a member of the Floresville Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Thelma Dukes Hood; his son, James Michael Hood; and his two stepsons, Fred Smith and James Hagan Smith.
Billy is survived by his loving wife, Verna Van Pelt Hood of Floresville; his son, David Leon Hood of Callifornia; his daughter, Rhonda Hood McConnell of Riverside, Calif.; his stepchildren, Horace Smith of Floresville, Nancy Carnes and husband Tom of Falls City, Charles Smith of McCoy, Barbara Leonhardt of Floresville, Alice Marie Navarro of Mississippi, and Tina Sutphin and husband Jeff of Mississippi; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Thursday, March 21, from 5-6 p.m. in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville.
A funeral service was held on Friday at 10 a.m. in the Floresville Church of Christ, officiated by Pastor Gordon Lindley.
Interment followed in the Floresville City Cemetery in Floresville.
Serving as pallbearers were James Robert Smith, Michael S. Carnes, Joseph Leonhardt, Adam Leonhardt, Brandon Harding, and Michael S. Carnes Jr.
