1920-2013

Magdalen (Skloss) Scheffler, 92, went to be with the Lord on Thursday evening, March 21, 2013, surrounded by her children who gave her constant love and care. She was born on July 19, 1920, to Bernard and Pelagia (Felux) Skloss in Kosciusko, Texas.

Magdalen married the love of her life, Peter Scheffler, on Jan. 9, 1945. They were married 39 years when he passed away on Aug. 29, 1984. She was a faithful, lifelong member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Kosciusko, where she was baptized, confirmed, and married. She participated throughout the years as a member of the Altar Society and helped with many church activities. Magdalen enjoyed spending many hours in her vegetable and flower garden, which brought her much joy. She always had fresh baked goods for her family. She also enjoyed many evenings on the back porch just admiring hummingbirds and wildflowers, and would always welcome a good game of dominoes. Visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were always welcomed and were a blessing to her. Magdalen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a loving and caring soul who loved God and her family, and always had a prayer for her children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter Scheffler; her parents; a daughter, Theresa Scheffler; one brother, Edmond Skloss; and two sisters, Regina Jendrusch and Martina Pruski.

She is survived by her children, Mary Ortensie and husband Kenneth of San Antonio, Marvin Scheffler and wife Janet of Kosciusko, Peter Scheffler Jr. and wife Mildred of Cestohowa, Evangeline Carnes of McCoy, and Patricia Del Bianco and husband Nelson of Kosciusko; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren (with two more on the way); her twin sister, Annie Wiatrek of Cestohowa; sister-in-law Apolonia Paschke of Kansas City, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Sunday, March 24, from 5-8 p.m. with a rosary recited at 6 p.m. in St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Kosciusko.

A funeral Mass was held on Monday at 10 a.m. in the church with the Rev. Jan Szpilka officiating.

Interment followed in St. Ann’s Parish Cemetery in Kosciusko.

Serving as pallbearers were Kenneth Ortensie, Peter Ortensie, Gregory Scheffler, David Scheffler, Christopher Scheffler, David Carnes, and Burt Carnes.

Memorial donations may be made by way of Mass intentions.
