Local churches plan Holy Week, Easter services
A number of special worship services and activities are planned at area churches this year for Easter Sunday, March 31, and the days preceding it. The Wilson County News publishes this compilation of Easter services each year as a service to our readers. Addresses for churches are available online in the free church directory at http://wilsoncountynews.com. Services are on Easter if not otherwise noted.
The Salem Sayers Baptist Church, 210-649-2153, will have Sunday school for everyone at 9:15 a.m. along with an Easter service at 10:30 a.m.
The St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 210-649-1370, will offer a Maundy Thursday service and a Good Friday service, both at 7 p.m. A Sunrise Easter service will be held on Sunday at 7 a.m.
The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 830-745-2633, will hold Mass at 8 p.m. on Holy Thursday. On Good Friday, Stations of the Cross will be at 3 p.m., followed by the Last Supper.
An Easter Vigil service and Mass will be held Saturday at 8 p.m. On Easter, Mass is at 10 a.m.
St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 210-635-8539, will have a Holy Thursday Mass at 7 p.m. with Adoration from 8-10 p.m. Good Friday service and an Easter Vigil Mass on Saturday will both be held at 7 p.m. On Easter, Mass will be at 8 and 11:30 a.m.
Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 830-254-3539, will hold a Holy Thursday Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 7 p.m. On Friday, Divine Mercy is at 2:15, Stations of the Cross will be at 2:30 p.m., and a celebration of the Lord’s Passion at 3 p.m.
On Saturday, Divine Mercy Chaplet is at 7:45 p.m., followed by an Easter Vigil Mass at 8 p.m. On Easter, Mass will be at 7:30, Divine Mercy Chaplet at 9:15 a.m., and Mass at 9:30 a.m.
The Landmark Missionary Baptist Church, 830-393-7032, Easter Sunday worship service at 11 a.m. Sunday school begins at 10.
Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 830-393-6117, will start off Holy Thursday with Stations of the Cross at the Sacred Heart Catholic School at 8:30 a.m. and have a Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 7 p.m. and adoration until midnight. On Good Friday, Stations of the Cross will be at 10 a.m. in the Floresville Nursing Center and Regency Manor. Stations of the Cross in the church will be at 12 p.m. Good Friday services will be at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. An Easter Vigil will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
On Easter, Mass will be at the regular times of 7:30 a.m., 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m., and noon.
The Floresville United Methodist Church, 830-393-2425, will hold a Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m. A Good Friday service of Darkness will be held at 7 p.m. On Saturday, there will be a 6 p.m. praise service. Resurrection Sunday services will be at 8:15 with communion and 10:45 a.m.
The First Lutheran Church, 830-393-2747, will hold a service on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, both at 7 p.m.
Easter will start with a 7 a.m. sunrise service. A full breakfast will follow at 8 a.m. Late service will be at 10:30 a.m.
The First Baptist Church, 830-216-4946, will have sunrise service on Sunday at 7:15 a.m. on the patio of the Floresville Event Center. Sunday school will be held at 9:45 a.m. followed by a worship service in the church at 11 a.m. The late service will have a special by the choir.
The Oak Hills Community Church, 830-216-2273, will offer Easter Sunday services at 8 and 10:30 a.m. Bible study will be at 9:15 a.m.
The Floresville Church of Christ, 830-393-6154, will hold an Easter service at 10 a.m.
St. Boniface Catholic Church, 830-780-3559, will have a 6 p.m. Mass on Thursday. On Friday, a Mass will be held at 5 p.m. On Saturday, a Vigil will be at 6 p.m. Easter Mass will be at 8 a.m.
The Cowboy Fellowship, 830-769-3733, between Pleasanton and Jourdanton, will have its Easter service on Sunday at 10:45 a.m.
St. Cornelius Catholic Church, 830-780-3947, will hold a Mass Thursday at 6 p.m. On Good Friday, the Stations of the Cross will be at 2:30 p.m., with Communion at 3 p.m.
On Holy Saturday, an Easter Vigil will be at 8 p.m. On Easter, Mass will be at 7:30 and 10:30 a.m. at St. Cornelius and at 8:30 a.m. at St. Elizabeth in Fashing.
St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 830-745-2541, will have a Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord’s Last Supper at 6:30 p.m. On Good Friday, Stations of the Cross will be at 2:30 p.m., followed by a Lord’s Passion service at 3 p.m. Saturday Easter Vigil will be at 7 p.m. On Easter, Mass will be at 9 a.m.
The La Vernia Ministerial Alliance, 830-253-8905, will sponsor “The Community of La Vernia Carries the Cross” on Good Friday, starting at 10 a.m. in the entrance of the La Vernia City Park. Ministers will pause at various stops for brief reflections, prayers, and singing. Those participating should take canned or nonperishable food items in plastic sacks for the La Vernia Food Pantry.
The Cowboy Fellowship of Wilson County, 830-305-5453, will offer an Easter Sunday service at 8:30 a.m. followed by breakfast.
The La Vernia United Methodist Church, 830-779-2621, will offer a Sunrise Easter service at 7 a.m., followed by a traditional service at 8:30 and a contemporary service at 11 a.m.
The First Baptist Church of La Vernia, 830-253-1239, will have an early worship service at 8:10 a.m. and a contemporary service at 10:45 a.m. on Easter Sunday. A children’s party will be held during the 10:45 service.
The Immanuel Lutheran Church, 830-253-8121, will have a Maundy Thursday service and a Service of Darkness on Good Friday, both at 7 p.m. An Easter sunrise service will be at 7 a.m. Easter breakfast will be served from 8:15-9:30 a.m. A Resurrection service with Holy Communion will be at 10 a.m.
St. Ann Catholic Church, 830-779-3131, will have a Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Thursday at 7 p.m. Stations of the Cross will be at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. A service will be held at 7 p.m. in the church. A Vigil Mass will be held Saturday at 7 p.m. Easter Sunday Mass will be at 9:30 a.m., noon, and 5:30 p.m.
The Grace Bible Church, 830-779-5200, will have Easter Sunday services at 9 and 10:30 a.m.
The La Vernia Christian Teaching Center, 830-779-6361, will have an Easter praise and worship service at 10 a.m. There will be no evening service.
The Hope Assembly of God, 830-779-4673, will have a Sunrise Easter service outside on its North field at 7 a.m. Additional services will be at 8:30 a.m. recommended for those without young children and at 10:30 a.m. recommended for those with young children.
The Marcelina Baptist Church, 830-393-2862, will have Sunday school at 9:45 a.m. and an Easter service at 11 a.m.
The Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 830-484-3302, will have a Holy Thursday service at 7 p.m. On Friday, Stations of the Cross and readings will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Easter Vigil Mass is at 8 p.m. On Easter, Mass will be at 7:30 and 9:30 a.m.
St. John Lutheran Church, 830-484-3691, will hold services on Maundy Thursday and on Good Friday at 7 p.m. A Sonrise Easter service will be held at 7 a.m. with breakfast afterward. A celebration service will be held at 8:30 a.m.
The Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 210-667-1232, will have a 7 p.m. Mass on Thursday. On Friday, Stations of the Cross will be at 2:30 p.m. with a liturgy to follow at 7 p.m. Saturday, there will be a blessing of Easter food at 2 p.m. and an Easter Vigil Mass at 6 p.m. On Sunday, a 7 a.m. sunrise procession and Mass will be held. Mass will also be held at 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
The Resurrection United Methodist Church, 210-649-2636, will celebrate with a traditional Seider meal on Holy Thursday at ET Dixon church. A Good Friday service will be held at 7 p.m. On Sunday, a sunrise service will be held at 7 a.m.
The Stockdale Ministerial Alliance, 830-996-3007, will hold its Community-wide Easter sunrise service on Sunday at 7 a.m. in the
Stockdale Cemetery. Breakfast will follow the service in the fellowship hall of Christ United Methodist Church. A love donation would be appreciated.
The Christ United Methodist Church, 830-996-3007, will have a Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m. Easter Sunday service will be at 10 a.m. Parishioners are asked to take a 6-inch pot of flowers or vegetables to transplant, or flowers in a vase so they may be placed around the sanctuary.
St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 830-996-3415, will have a Lord’s Supper Mass at 7 p.m. Thursday. A traditional service on Good Friday will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday Easter Vigil Mass will be at 8:30 p.m. On Easter, a sunrise Mass will be at 6 a.m., with Masses at 8 and 10 a.m.
The First Baptist Church, 830-996-3456, will have its Easter worship services at 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. with Sunday school at 9:45 a.m.
The First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs, 830-947-3333, will have a Sonrise service at 7 a.m., followed by a pancake sausage breakfast. Morning worship is at 11 a.m. with a barbecue lunch immediately following. At 6 p.m. guest singer Megan Cox will kick off a revival planned for April 1-3 at 7 p.m.
