Jack Charles Laurence
Jack Charles Laurence died peacefully on Friday, March 22, 2013. A gentle man with a great sense of humor, Jack was born in Fredericksburg, Texas, on July 31, 1926. He was raised on a ranch near Willow City with no electricity or running water and loved it. Jack was a true cowboy and cherished driving and working cattle with his father, Richard. In 1944, he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps, was discharged after World War II, and was promptly called back into the Air Force during the Korean War. After the military, Jack moved to San Antonio and began taking college courses at Trinity. His neighbor, Lucille, became his wife of 57 years. Jack was a surplus dealer, a purchasing agent for Dee Howard, a metal salesman, and finally the owner of Jack Laurence Corp., a 51-year-old company.
Jack is survived by his sons, Dr. Laird Laurence and wife Karen of Fredericksburg and Lynn Laurence and wife Caroline of San Antonio; daughter Luanne Kuehler and husband Steve of Katy; grandchildren Sam, Anna, Brandon, Justin and wife Marie, Kynley, and Stanton; sister Dawn Laurence Beckendorf of Fredericksburg; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service was held on Tuesday, April 2, at 3 p.m. in St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in San Antonio.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 315 E. Pecan, San Antonio, TX 78205, or to a charity of one’s choice.
