FORT WORTH -- The Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association installed new officers March 24, during the closing session of the 136th annual Cattle Raisers Convention in Fort Worth. Clay Birdwell of Hereford was elected president; Pete Bonds of Saginaw, first vice president; Richard Thorpe of Winters, second vice president; and Eldon White of Fort Worth, executive vice president.

“The continued determination and commitment of cattle raisers is needed as our industry looks to the future,” Birdwell said.

Birdwell is president of Great Plains Cattle Feeders and Birdwell Cattle Co. headquartered in Hereford. He has been part of the cattle raisers leadership since 1995, when he was elected a director.

Other new directors elected at the convention are Gardner Dudley of Houston, Jay Evans of Austin, Johnny Ferguson of Big Lake, Clayton Henry of Vernon, Gerald Nobles Jr. of Brady, and Ken Welch of Baird.

New executive committee members include J.K. Rooter Brite Jr. of Bowie, Austin Brown II of Beeville, Dave Delaney of Kingsville, and Tom Haynie of Navasota.

William Donnell Jr. of Alpine, Katharine Armstrong Love of Austin, Len Mertz of San Angelo, Raymond Moore IV of Richmond, and Gordon Richardson of Caldwell were elected as honorary directors.

All members with honorary titles serve as ex officio members of the board.
