Editor:

Take another optimistic tour, which is 4 miles and 10 minutes.

Next to the service station in front of Walmart is the new Tiger Place retail shopping center, which will include Hibbett Sporting Goods Inc. and Western Beverage. Turn east on upper C.R. 301, and continue on a gravel road that turns right and heads south. Next, you will see McCoy’s Building Supply under construction. Continue south and see a new Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union under construction.

When the road dead-ends into the old Sutherland Springs Road, turn right and then left on U.S. 181. Proceed past S.H. 97 and note a Holiday Inn Express to the right past H-E-B. This hotel should be completed by June 1.

Continue south and see a Super 8 Motel now open, and a La Quinta Inn on the left recently finished. Keep going south and turn on Paloma Drive toward the post office across from the Floresville City Cemetery. You will notice the Department of Health and Human Services building is almost finished. Next is a large apartment complex under construction.

I am excited about watching the financial progress of Floresville the next six to nine months.

Just think, when I graduated in 1948, the population was 1,708.

I wonder what the effect of the eventual approval of the keystone pipeline will be on oil prices. Low prices always dampen exploration and high prices result in more exploration. Just wondering.

Remember, Karnes County once had uranium. And until this Eagle Ford came about, it was one of Texas' poorest counties. These towns need to have plans for what to do the day after the oil stops flowing and the gas stops rising. ... More ›

Folks excited by the apparent thriving in Floresville might be well advised to research the oil boom and bust in Texas during the 70's and onto the 80s. Although some experts claim that this boom is different, one still ... More ›

Growth is wonderful except when it is implemented poorly. Based on the present and no heed for the future. The P&Z in Floresville is awful.

Big is not always better. I do agree that all the expansion listed above is good - with one exception. The expanded Human services building troubles me. More space always means more bureaucratic hiring to fill that space and ... More ›
